Self-reliance

The objective of the self-reliance project is to improve the lives of the young generation by providing specialized training designed to help them obtain employment, build their career, and eventually become self-reliant. Unemployment is rampant at Gorgora. We plan to use a multitude of approaches to create the conditions that enable the young generation to actively contribute to our community. We plan to provide vocational trainings in market-oriented skills.

At present, because of financial limitations, we haven’t been able to implement any specific self-reliance projects. But discussions are underway with members and the local community to prioritize and solicit funds for the following projects:

• Provide basic skill training to the youth in fields such as masonry, carpentry, welding, etc. For those who successfully graduate, we plan to provide basic tools to start work on their own
• Provide computer literacy and small business skills training to assist in income-generation activities or small business development
• Provide basic training on how to run a poultry and fishing projects
Once the necessary funds are secured, projects will be prioritized working with the donors, members, and the local community.
